Who in the world is Tom
Lockwood?
Tom was born 4/12/51 in Ft.
Worth, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University 1969 and joined
the U.S. Army and spent a tour of duty in Germany as an entry
control agent of a nuclear weapons storage facility for 22 months.
This position required a National Maximum Security Clearance. He was
honorably discharged from the Army in 1972 and married his wife,
Melanie. They have three sons - Jason, Barrett and Trent.
In 1964 Tom's parents bought
their first ranch and Tom bought his first horse. He has been a
full-time cattle and horse rancher since 1976, the fifth generation
of Texas ranchers in his family. In 1973 Tom purchased his first
ranch. They moved to their present location and established a 300
cow registered Hereford cattle operation in
1976.
In 1979, tom founded the Brazos
Valley Hereford Breeders Association and served as
Secretary-Treasurer and Sales Manager for 10 years. He managed 22
registered cattle sales until their dispersal in 1994. Tom was
selected for the first class of the Texas Agriculture Lifetime
Leadership Program. He was a volunteer lobbyist for a national farm
organization in 1996 and as a result of his direct meetings with
House and Senate Agricultural Committee Chairmen, rules negatively
impacting family operations in the existing farm bill were
amended.
1988 was the year Tom
started their Quarter Horse breeding operation. In 2000, Tom
started TOM LOCKWOOD HORSE SALES to create a market for his horses
and other breeders with similar goals. The mission of these sales is
to provide management based on the Golden Rule, providing the
highest professional standards and uncompromising ethics for both
buyer and seller. Strive for perfection and along the way you will
achieve excellence.
Tom Lockwood Horse Sales will be
having three sales each year in Sealy, Texas at the Port City
Stockyards.
This year Tom and Melanie
Lockwood have been accepted into AQHA's prestigius 4aHQRSE breeders
referral program. Tom recently was honored by being invited to be a
guest lecturer in Ag Economics at Texas A&M
University.
